The winner of this year’s contest, Miguel Mendoza, 11, was chosen for effectively incorporating many different aspects of the program, including an emphasis on recycling and the golden rule of respect: “Treat others the same way you like to be treated.” “I put (the golden rule) so kids or other people can learn from that,” said Mendoza, a fifth grader from James Buchanan Elementary School in Bethlehem. Even though he said drawing the poster took “two or three days,” it all paid off when his name was announced as the winner of the grand prize, a laptop computer. |
